From the middle age to the 19th century was Italy just a
geographical region that consisted of several small states. The kingdom of Italy
was created 1861 when all of Italy except Venetia and the Papal State were
united. These areas joined the Italian kingdom 1866 and 1871. Because the
Italian kingdom first consisted of a smaller territory than the geographical
region of Italy are there two figures for the year 1861. The numbers in purple are collected
from
English Wikipedia.
