Reichsgraf Finck von Finckenstein
Four battalions to the left of Orkney. The composition
of this force is tentative. It certainly contained Prussians. Preston
and Pendergast’s English were brigaded with the Prussians in June 1709,
and Pendergast’s regiment is recorded engaging the French Gendarmes from
the Eastern redans, which Finck occupied. In many British accounts,
Finck’s command is incorporated into Orkney’s numbers. Finck and Orkney
were of equal rank (lieutenant-generals) and were separate divisions. It
may be that two of the English battalions listed under Orkney above were
actually under Finck’s command. |
